Kamaruddin Jaafar
Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar is a Malaysian politician and is currently the Member of the Parliament of Malaysia for the Tumpat constituency in Kelantan. He is a member of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) in the opposition Pakatan Rakyat coalition.[1]
Kamaruddin was a member of UMNO before switching to PAS in 1999.[2] While a member of UMNO, he was considered a close associate of then Deputy Prime Minister and later Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim,[3] and was held in custody with Anwar under the Internal Security Act.[4] Since switching to PAS, Kamaruddin was elected to the Tumpat seat in the 1999, 2004 and 2008 elections.[5] For the 2004 election, he was the PAS Secretary-General.[2]
